On January 6, New York City classical music radio station WQXR named Esther Yoo one of its “20 for 20” Artists to Watch in the Upcoming Year. Now in its second year, this initiative celebrates classical artists and ensembles “who are redefining what classical music can be and doing so in diverse and thrilling ways.”
Throughout the year, “20 for 20” artists collaborate with WQXR on podcasts, videos, live events, radio broadcasts, album airplay exclusives, social media, and more.
From the kick-off feature:
“Esther Yoo knows the world. U.S.-born, Belgian (and German!) bred, with a strong Korean heritage — all of these different angles merge to give the violinist her own musical perspective, which she shares solo, or with her trio, Z.E.N. The group, which Yoo co-founded along with Zhang Zuo and Narek Hakhnazaryan, is preparing for a new album release on Deutsche Grammophon. She also enters the new season just two years removed from her appointment as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s inaugural Artist-in-Residence, and in February she’ll return for a hearty Russian program, featuring conductor Thierry Fischer.”
