Esther Yoo joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic and conductor Jaap van Zweden for the Asia premiere of Raymond Yiu’s Violin Concerto. A concerto written specially for Esther, she gave the world premiere of the work at the Barbican Hall in London in March 2024 together with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and conductor Clemens Schultd.
As the South China Morning Post put it, “Yoo’s thought-provoking, contemplative take on Yiu’s embellished transcription of a 1974 solo erhu recording he discovered on a visit to Hong Kong was a true highlight.”
The concerto will receive it’s North American premiere this Spring with the Seattle Symphony lead by Alexander Shelley.
