While the stages of concert halls around the world remain dark, Gramophone asked leading artists to share recordings that have brought them comfort during this difficult time.
Esther Yoo shared Sumi Jo’s album ‘Missing You,’ which she discovered at her father’s house while self-quarantining in Seoul. Esther appreciates that, “all 16 tracks [on this album] consist of beautiful folk-songs from around the world and Sumi Jo sings them so elegantly in a multitude of languages including French, Greek, Swedish, Norwegian, Russian, Spanish, English and of course, Korean.” Esther goes on to share that, “ambiguous and isolated times make us crave the human voice conveying positivity, and this album uplifted my spirits not only through song, but also through the virtual trip around the world.”
